PCG: Over 19K outbound travelers troop to ports day before Christmas Eve
The Philippine Coast Guard on Thursday monitored a total of 19,165 outbound passengers in all ports across the country ahead of Christmas Eve.
In an update, the PCG said 20,659 inbound passengers were also recorded.
To ensure safety of the trips, at least 1,692 personnel have been deployed in 15 PCG Districts to inspect 253 vessels and 278 motorbancas.
PCG districts, stations, and sub-stations were placed under 'heightened alert' from December 16, 2021 to January 5, 2022 to manage the influx of port passengers who will visit their provinces.
“Fully vaccinated local tourists are also expected to flock to tourist destinations that are now slowly re-opening, following the reported lower cases of COVID-19 in the country,” the PCG said.
“The riding public is encouraged to carefully check the existing ordinances of their destination as LGUs have different documentary and testing requirements,” it added.
Travelers are also advised to coordinate with the PCG for their concerns on travel protocols and regulations this Christmas season through its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs (0927-560-7729). —LBG, GMA News
