Several transmission lines still down after Odette’s onslaught —NGCP


Several power transmission and distribution infrastructure are still down after Typhoon Odette ravaged Visayas and Mindanao, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said Thursday.

According to the NGCP, the following transmission lines are unavailable:

VISAYAS

  • Maasin-Baybay 69 kilovolt (kV) Line

“Eleven 138kV Lines and one 230kV Line are de-energized. These lines remain out but are ready for energization as soon as power generators are ready to transmit, and distribution utilities are ready to receive power,” the NGCP said.

It said that loss of power may be caused by affected transmission facilities of NGCP or distribution facilities of local distribution utilities or electric cooperatives.

"Specific cities and municipalities affected by the power interruptions are determined by concerned distribution utilities, unless the outage affects the entire franchise area,” it added.

In an interview on ANC’s Headstart, NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza said the company was able to restore about 70% to 75% of transmission lines toppled by the calamity.

However, she said that “the remaining lines are such a big challenge especially those leading to Bohol, which I think up to now, without transmission services whatsoever.”
