258 reported dead, 47 missing due to Typhoon Odette — NDRRMC
A total of 258 people have been reported dead, 47 were missing, and 568 were injured due to Typhoon Odette, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.
In its latest report, the NDRRMC said that only 11 fatalities were confirmed including those reported in Palawan, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Bohol, Bukidnon, and Misamis Oriental.
Most of the victims died due to drowning and getting hit by falling trees.
A total of 2,196,432 people or 585,029 families were affected by the typhoon in 4,566 barangays.
The affected regions were Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.
A total of 486,361 people or 122,575 families were staying inside 2,535 evacuation centers, while 123,341 individuals or 29,906 families were staying in the houses of their relatives and friends.
According to the NDRRMC, at least 136,369 houses were damaged — 83,633 partially and 52,736 totally.
A total of P 1,152,834,160 worth of damage in agriculture and 2,537,507,000 in infrastructure were reported.
Of the 269 cities and municipalities that encountered power interruption, 144 have been restored, the NDRRMC said. Water supply problems, meanwhile, are being experienced in three areas.
Communication issues are still being experienced in 348 areas, according to the NDRRMC.
All of the five airports in the affected areas are now operational. Of the 25 suspended domestic flights, eight have already resumed.
A total of 126 seaports went non-operational due to the typhoon, of which 557 are already functioning. At least 1,513 passengers, 690 rolling cargoes, and five vessels were stranded.
At least 379 classes and 306 work schedules were also suspended.
According to the NDRRMC, a total of 33 cities and municipalities were declared under a State of Calamity. — RSJ, GMA News
