Typhoon Odette death toll rises to 375 —PNP

The total number of deaths from Typhoon Odette's wrath in Visayas and Mindanao increased to 375 from 211, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday.

In its total data, the PNP Regional Offices reported the following breakdown for typhoon-related deaths:

Region 6 - 24

Region 7 - 170

Region 8 - 6

Region 9 - 1

Region 10 - 7

Region 13 - 167

The number of fatalities was higher than National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's (NDRRMC) data of 58 deaths in the typhoon.

Meanwhile, 500 people were hurt, including 364 in Region 7, 15 in Region 8, three in Region 10 and 118 in Region 13.

A total of 56 individuals are still missing after the typhoon ravaged several parts of Visayas and Mindanao, the PNP said. Of the number, 47 are missing in Region 7, one in Region 8 and eight in Region 13.

The Philippine police also rescued 4,945 victims of Typhoon Odette.

The total count of evacuees were 99,568 people or 30,065 families, the PNP said.

Also, PNP reported that 3,164 areas have yet to restore their power, 1,897 areas have no cellular service, and the typhoon caused over P81 million in damages to infrastructure and P1.1 million worth of damages in houses.

Odette left the Philippine area of responsibility over the weekend but several areas are still suffering from its aftermath. It may also be considered one of the fiercest typhoons to hit the country this year, the NDRRMC earlier said.—LDF, GMA News
