Comelec: Typhoon Odette will not hamper Eleksyon 2022 preparations
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday assured the public that Typhoon Odette will not hamper their preparations for Eleksyon 2022.
“We don’t see that it will have any effect on election preparations,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press conference Monday.
He explained that Comelec field officials are conducting verification of elections sites and they are considering if these areas are ready for the next year’s elections.
“It is still a long way off. So, right now [we are looking] more on the civic aspect of the storm, how can we help the local communities rather than what specific impact it will have on our elections because right now, again it is a little too distant,” he said.
Typhoon Odette had devastated several parts of southern Philippines, especially in the CARAGA region in December or barely five months before the conduct of the May 9, 2022 elections.
