BRP Ang Pangulo repurposed as hospital for Odette victims in Mindanao
Presidential ship BRP Ang Pangulo (ACS25) was repurposed by the Philippine Navy into a 10-bed floating hospital to give medical attention in typhoon-hit areas in Mindanao.
BRP Ang Pangulo departed on Sunday from Pier 13 of the Manila South Harbor to Siargao Island.
It also carried thousands of relief goods gathered by fleet-marine personnel assigned in various Navy vessels.
Meanwhile, the relief items from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) included 1,000 boxes of family food packs, 300 rolls of laminated sacks, and 1,212 hygiene kits.
“This effort demonstrates the usefulness and versatility of Philippine Navy assets to provide wide-ranging services for those needing them the most during calamities,” the Philippine Navy said in a statement on Monday.
“It also highlights the Navy's ongoing efforts to assist other government agencies in responding to our fellow Filipinos being affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette,” it added. — Giselle Ombay/RSJ, GMA News
