Soldiers donate portion of allowance to GMA Kapuso Foundation for victims of Typhoon Odette
Soldiers of the Philippine Army donated P4 million to the GMA Kapuso Foundation for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Odette.
According to Mav Gonzales' report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, the money was part of the soldiers' subsistence allowance used for their needs like food.
"Nakita po namin kung gaano naghihirap ang ating mga kababayan lalong-lalo na po sa areas Northern Mindanao at sa Visayas kung saan dumaan itong bagyong Odette," said Major General Romeo Brawner, Jr.
"Halos lahat ng miyembro ng Philippine Army ay nag-volunteer magbigay ng porsyento ng aming subsistence allowance," he added.
["We saw how hard it is for our fellow countrymen, especially those in areas of Northern Mindanao and Visayas, where Typhoon Odette passed through. Almost all members of the Philippine Army volunteered to donate a percentage of our subsistence allowance."]
The GMA Kapuso Foundation has so far distributed aid to Surigao del Norte, Samar, and Southern Leyte. Its next stops for relief operations are Cebu and Bohol.
The foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Pay Maya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
