Duterte receives credentials of Ireland envoy William John Carlos
President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday welcomed at Malacañang the new ambassador of Ireland.
Duterte accepted the credentials of William John Carlos, saying he is looking forward to the opening of the Irish Embassy in Manila this year.
"The Philippines looks forward to revitalizing its ties with Ireland, particularly in the economic sphere. We count on Ireland’s support for the resumption of the negotiation on the Philippines-EU Free Trade Agreement," he said in his speech.
Duterte said robust trade and investment relations within the Philippines and Ireland and the larger European community will "contribute faster and inclusive recovery" from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The president also thanked the Irish government for the hospitality extended to Filipinos living and working in Ireland.
"I wish Your Excellency all the best in your tour of duty in the Philippines," Duterte said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
