Duterte on Eleksyon 2022 rallies: Don't tempt the gods, ensure social distancing
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to make sure social social distancing is followed by those attending campaign rallies ahead of Eleksyon 2022.
In his Talk to the People, Duterte reiterated his promise to push for peaceful and honest elections in 2022 which he reported at the Summit for Democracy hosted by US President Joe Biden.
Subsequently, the President warned about the "danger of recontamination" if safety protocols on COVID-19 will not be followed during campaign season.
"Ang problema dito ganito, mabuti maraming nabakunahan medyo na that's a lesser casualty now but do not tempt the gods. Huwag mo hingin talaga na ikaw humingi sa aabot sa atin kung hahayaan natin na ganito," Duterte said.
"I'd like to call the attention of the Comelec, kayo man ang ano. You are the ones supervising the elections, as a matter of fact, you are running the show... Could you not just issue a... i-maintain lang ang social distancing," he added.
He even said campaigns in Luneta Park may be allowed as long as the COVID-19 protocols are enforced.
"Hindi na kung gaano karami. Punuin ang Luneta as long as you maintain the regulations imposed by government kasi mahirap ito pag nagbalik. It might come back of vengeance," Duterte said. -NB, GMA News
