Unvaccinated police personnel to be reassigned to low-risk duty –PNP's Carlos

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos on Tuesday said that unvaccinated police personnel were to be reassigned to “low risk” duty to avoid infections amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They will not be deployed for fieldwork. More likely they will be assigned to do administrative work so that they will be less exposed to risks of COVID-19 infection,” Carlos said in a statement.

According to Carlos, the administrative functions will have limited close contact with the public and other co-workers.

“The bottom line is nobody will be idle, everyone will functionally perform a designated job,” Carlos said.

“Also, it will be crucial not to let them report for work since full deployment of personnel is needed during the holiday season,” he added.

The PNP reported that, as of December 7, a total of 1,771 police personnel or 0.79% of the PNP remain unvaccinated, with 937 or 0.42% having valid reasons such as allergic reactions, medical conditions, pregnancy, and religious beliefs.

Meanwhile, at least 834 or 0.37% unvaccinated personnel have not provided any reasonable excuse for refusing vaccination against the viral disease.

The PNP announced on Tuesday the the number of COVID-19 cases among its personnel went up to 42,216 after four new infections were recorded. — DVM, GMA News
