Philippine Army, Japan partner in disaster relief project

The Philippines and Japan bolstered ties with a new partnership for a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief project.

The collaboration was between the Philippine Army and Japanese Ministry of Defense and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) for the activity held from November 15-19 at the Mandirigtas Training Area, Libingan ng Mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

The training unit of the 43rd Infantry Regiment of the JGSDF, together with the 525th Engineer Combat Battalion of the Philippine Army, took part in the project.

The project was launched as a result of Japan’s support to the Philippines’ disaster relief efforts in assisting casualties during natural disasters and establish better societies.

Both the JGSDF and ECB units conducted training exhibitions, held lectures, and exchanged ideas to further improve future responses.

The project is part of the JPY500-million “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Disaster Reduction Equipment" assistance to the Philippines.

The activity was led by 525th Engineer Combat Battalion Ervin Divinagracia and observed by Japan Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Minister Yamamoto Yasushi.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA News
