Isko: Candidate who uses drugs may become a drug lord
Presidential aspirant and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday said presidential aspirants who use drugs may end up being a drug lord.
“I cannot speak in behalf of other candidates, I can speak for myself. What is my moral ascendancy to go against drugs if I’m a drug user? Baka ako na maging drug lord kasi ako na presidente, ako pa gumagamit, baka ako na maging drug lord,” Moreno told reporters in an ambush interview in Laguna.
(I cannot speak in behalf of other candidates, I can speak for myself. What is my moral ascendancy to go against drugs if I’m a drug user? Later on, I might become a drug lord because I am the president.)
He also cautioned against the use of power to proliferate illegal drugs or the so-called “narco-politics.”
“That’s very dangerous,” he said.
Moreno made the remark after President Rodrigo Duterte, in a speech Thursday night, claimed that one of the presidential aspirants in next year's elections is a cocaine user.
Duterte did not mention any name but described the person as a "weak leader" who has done nothing and is just banking on his father's name.
“He is a very weak leader ang character niyan…Except for the name. Ang tatay. Pero siya? Anong ginawa niya? He might win hands down, okay. If that's what the Filipino wants, go ahead. Basta alam ninyo," Duterte said. --KBK, GMA News
