LTO to begin issuing driver's license with 10-year validity on Oct. 28
The Land Transportation Office central office will start issuing the 10-year valid driver's licenses starting on Thursday, October 28.
According to a report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday, only those who have not committed violations are entitled to the license with the longer validity.
The 10-year valid driver’s license is contained in a provision in Republic Act No. 1093, signed into law in 2017, which states that “except for student permits, all drivers' licenses shall be valid for five years... any holder of a professional or nonprofessional driver's license who has not committed any violation of Republic Act No. 4136 and other traffic laws, rules and regulations during the five-year period shall be entitled to a renewal of such license for 10 years, subject to the restrictions as may be imposed by the LTO."
Aside from the old requirements, the LTO has also added a new one which requires renewal applicants to undergo the agency's comprehensive driver's exam.
The exam can be done face-to-face or online at portal.lto.gov.ph.
"Puwede namang ulitin (in case bumagsak). Kailangan ma-answer mo correctly at least 50%," LTO chief Edgar Galvante said.
The project will be first implemented in Quezon City but will be rolled out in other areas on November 3.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
