Actor Robin Padilla joins PDP-Laban; to run for Senate in Eleksyon 2022

Actor Robin Padilla took his oath as a member of the ruling party PDP-Laban on Tuesday as he plans to run for the Senate during Eleksyon 2022.

Robin's brother, Rommel Padilla, also took his oath administered by Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary and PDP Laban President Alfonso Cusi.

In a statement, the PDP-Laban confirmed that Robin was running for senator under the ruling party, while his brother would make another bid as representative of the 1st District of Nueva Ecija.

Padilla supported and campaigned for President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 national elections.

He also campaigned for Senator Christopher “Bong” Go when Go successfully ran for the Senate in 2019.

The Padilla brothers are from a family of politicians and actors.

Their father Roy Padilla served as Camarines Norte governor in 1970 and assemblyman in 1980. Meanwhile, their mother Eva Cariño was an actress.

The campaign period for national posts is from February 8 to May 7, 2022.

Meanwhile, the campaign period for candidates in local elective posts is from March 25 to May 7, 2022.

Aspirants for national posts started filing their certificates of candidacy on Friday, October 1. The deadline is on October 8. — DVM, GMA News
