New COVID-19 infections hit 18,528; Philippines' second-highest daily case count
The Philippines reported 18,528 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, pushing the number of active cases in the country to 143,221.
This is the country's second-highest daily case count. On Saturday, a new all-time high of 19,441 new COVID-19 infections was recorded.
The Department of Health said the new cases brought the country's total COVID-19 case count to 1,954,023.
Of the 143,221 active cases, 95.3% are mild, 2% are asymptomatic, 1% are moderate, and 0.6% are in critical condition.
Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 1,777,693 after 17,922 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.
The death toll rose to 33,109 with 101 new fatalities.
The DOH said 205 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 38 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
The DOH said all laboratories were operational on August 27, while seven laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. — DVM, GMA News
