Duterte must be telling Roque another thing, says daughter Sara

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday clarified that President Rodrigo Duterte had asked her not to run for national post, contradictory to presidential spokesman Harry Roque's earlier remarks.

This was in response to Roque's earlier briefing wherein he said the President wanted Sara to run for Eleksyon 2022 but the president's daughter did not want to.

In Ivan Mayrina's 24 Oras report, Sara said: "Baka iba ang sinasabi ni PRRD kay Sec. Roque. (Maybe the President is saying something else to Secretary Roque.)

Sara recalled her past conversations with her parents, adding that both are urging her not to seek presidential post in next year's polls.

"My parents and I have talked about politics twice in the past month and they have been consistent in expressing their opinion for me not to run for national post," Sara said.

"PRRD said everyone and everything will destroy me if I run and maybe win for President.  My mother said she will miss me if I leave Davao City," she added.

Roque discussed Duterte's supposed desire for Sara to run after he was being questioned about what caused the rift between President Duterte and his ruling party's acting president Senator Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao.

“Sinabi niya na gusto niya i-endorso si Inday Sara pero kung ayaw talaga (The President did say he wanted to endorse Inday Sara, but if she won’t run), let us see who has the numbers: Senator Pacquiao, Mayor Isko (Moreno), former Senator Bongbong Marcos,” Roque said.

On Monday, President Duterte once again criticized Pacquiao over the legislator's alleged comments that corruption worsened under Duterte's leadership.

Duterte even challenged Pacquiao to name three corrupt officials during his term. Later on, Pacquiao accepted this challenge, even asking for a graft probe on Health Chief Francisco Duque III's  response as leader of the Department of Health.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
