PDP-Laban national council adopts reso urging Duterte to run for vice president in Eleksyon 2022

The PDP-Laban national council on Monday adopted a resolution urging President Rodrigo Duterte to run for vice presidency in the coming elections.

The resolution also urged Duterte to choose his running mate for president in the 2022 polls.

PDP-Laban vice president for external affairs Raul Lambino said the party had received resolutions from various regions, local government units and chapters of the party, calling on Duterte to run for vice presidency.

Lambino's motion to adopt the resolution after being seconded was immediately approved by the national council.

During the press conference, Lambino said assuming that Duterte would not heed to the clamor of PDP Laban members for him to run as vice president, the party will again vote for their standard bearer.

He also said any member of the party can vie to become the standard bearer for the coming elections.

When it comes to their senatorial lineup, Lambino said the party would either field the slate or it will merge with other political parties.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque earlier said Duterte would run for vice president if he received "a message from God."

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said the Duterte should serve as the running mate of his daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Sara emerged as the top choice of respondents in the pre-election survey conducted by Pulse Asia earlier this year.

A resolution asking the President to seek the vice presidency was already circulated in March.

According to Deputy Speaker Eric Martinez, a party stalwart, the party is calling for Duterte's vice presidency run in 2022 to allow for a continuity of policy that he has started in his current term as chief executive officer.

However, Senator Manny Pacquiao, the party's acting president, said the resolution was not authorized because the PDP-Laban's leadership wants politics to be set aside in this time of pandemic.  —NB, GMA News
