Roque's debate challenge ‘not the best way to spend time,’ says ex-DFA chief Del Rosario
Former Foreign Affairs chief Albert Del Rosario on Tuesday said presidential spokesman Harry Roque's debate challenge on West Philippine Sea issues is not the "best way" to spend time, noting that the presidential office is undergoing "credibility challenges."
In a press statement, Del Rosario said he acknowledged Roque's invite but underscored "serious credibility challenges" within the Office of the President.
"The question arises – Is the problem with the marketer, or is it the product, or both?" Del Rosario also said.
Del Rosario also thumbed down the debate on territorial dispute because it would show that "we are not united and we do not know what we are doing."
He advised the government to "listen to Filipinos" in asserting Philippines' claims in the West Philippine Sea.
"Secretary Roque can then serve as our pathfinder," the former country's top diplomat added.
Last week, the President did not push through with his debate with former Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio instead he designated Roque to represent him in the debate after his Cabinet officials appealed him to not pursue it.
"Retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio, it would be a pleasure to debate against you. I'll see you at the designated time and place," Roque said.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
