NDRRMC: Food packs, funds all set for Bising's feared onslaught


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Sunday said a total of P1.6 billion worth of stockpiles of food and standby funds were prepared for those living in areas expected to be affected by Typhoon Bising.

In its situation report, the NDRRMC said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) readied P556,438,277 standby funds in its central office and field offices. Of the said amount, P517,992,176 is the available Quick Response Fund in the DSWD main office. 

DSWD also readied 370,058 family  food packs worth P188,605,445 and other food items worth P336,080,171 and non-food supplies valued at P521,499,769.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) also prepared P9.4 million worth of drugs, medicines, medical supplies, health kits as well as COVID-19 supplies and personal protective equipment.

DOH also raised code alert in central office and regional offices as well as activated its operations center 2/7 in preparation of the typhoon's onslaught.

Based on PAGASA's latest weather report, Bising was last spotted 375 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon or 345 km east of Virac, Catanduanes. 

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals remained hoisted over areas in Bicol, Eastern Visayas and portions of Mindanao. —LBG, GMA News
