18 PNP personnel test positive for drug use since January
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said 18 of its personnel have tested positive for the use of dangerous drugs since January this year.
The PNP said the drug tests were conducted from January 1 to February 20.
PNP said the following police offices have personnel who tested positive:
- National Headquarters – 2
- National Capital Region Police Office – 3
- Police Regional Office (PRO) Central Luzon – 2
- PRO Calarbarzon – 4
- PRO Western Visayas – 1
- PRO Northern Mindanao – 1
- PRO Caraga – 1
- PRO Bangsamoro Autonomous Region – 4
The PNP said 17 of them are police officers, while the other one is a non-uniformed personnel.
The total number of personnel who tested positive is only 0.009% of the 80,507 total personnel who underwent the drug testing.
According to the PNP, the personnel who were tested for drug use are only 37% of the 217,591 total strength of the organization.
Since January 2016, a total of 163 personnel have already tested positive for drug use.
According to PNP, the drug testing is part of the organization’s efforts on internal cleaning. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
