PNP-HPG seizes over 1,400 vehicles, nabs 4 car thieves in big-time ops


The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group has impounded 1,427 cars and motorcycles in a nationwide anti-carnapping and road safety law-enforcement operations, the PNP said Tuesday.

In a statement, the PNP said its HPG conducted the 11th Simultaneous Nationwide Oplan Lambat Bitag Sasakyan-One Time Big Time Operations on Monday.

HPG Director Police Brigadier General Alexander Tagum said Regional Highway Patrol Units have arrested four wanted car thieves.

Also, authorities issued 7,043 traffic tickets or citations and cited 2,673 traffic violations in relation to the Land Transportation and Traffic Act.

With 19 colorum motorcycles impounded, PNP said a total of 1,426 violations were cited in relation to Motorcycle Riders Act.

At least 371 illegal accessories were also confiscated during the operations.

According to PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas, there is a 5.7% increase in the number of impounded vehicles.

For violation of Land Transportation and Traffic Code, a 2.3% increase has been recorded.

An increase of 6.5% has been observed in the number of apprehensions relating to Motorcycle Helmet Act, Presidential Decree No. 96 regarding vehicle’s accessories, and memorandum circulars on colorum vehicles.

“Finally, the total of issued Traffic Citation Tickets(TCT), Temporary Operator's Permit (TOP), and Ordinance Violations Receipts (OVR) has decreased by 2.7%,” Sinas added. —LBG, GMA News
