BFP records 'zero' firecracker-related fire incidents so far this 2020
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on Wednesday said it has yet to record a single fire incident caused by firecrackers this 2020.
"For this year, proud po tayong magsabi na [zero] pa po tayo on firecracker-related incidents po. Sana po magtuloy-tuloy na po," said BFP spokesperson Fire Superintendent Annalee Carbajal-Atienza in a Balitanghali interview.
However, Atienza said they recorded 542 fire incidents this December nationwide.
She said the common causes of fire incidents were open flame, or the use of torches, including unattended lighted candles or cooking.
Atienza said the agency has intensified its firetruck visibility this holiday season and ahead of the New Year.
The BFP also coordinated with local government units, through barangay officials, and further equipped its fire brigade in case of untoward incidents.
