3.8 million people affected by Ulysses, says NDRRMC
Some 3.8 million individuals or more than 932,000 families were affected by Typhoon Ulysses, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its report on Sunday.
The total number of families affected is 932,467, equivalent to 3,830,602 individuals, the NDRRMC said.
The affected individuals were in 6,321 barangays in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, V, National Capital Region (NCR) and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
A total of 34,328 families or 139,866 persons are staying temporarily in 723 evacuation centers, while 12,829 families or 46,848 persons are outside evacuation centers.
The death toll remained at 73 while 68 were injured. Nineteen people are still missing. These are all in Regions II, III, Calabarzon, V, CAR and NCR.
The Armed Forces of Philippines’ Northern and Southern Luzon Commands have carried on with their search and rescue operations for 16 still missing persons in the wake of Typhoon Ulysses.
Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday, AFP spokesperson Major General Edgard Arevalo also noted that the rest of the AFP forces in NOLCOM and SOLCOM already shifted to rehabilitation support and relief operations.
The NDRRMC also said out of the 375 cities and municipalities in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, V, VIII, CAR and NCR that had power outage, 223 already had their power restored.
Meanwhile, 40 out of 68 municipalities in Calabarzon and Region V that had water interruption already had their water service restored.
Some areas still have no communication lines or have unstable signal, among them Polillo Island and parts of Quezon.
Damage to agriculture remained at P4,213,681,074, while damage to infrastructure reached P8,691,252,576.28.
A total of 88,713 houses were damaged, of which 9,763 were totally damaged, and the rest partially damaged.
Meanwhile, total assistance provided to affected families has so far reached P125,725,973.59.
Of this amount, P77,998,440.11 came from the Department of Social Welfare and Development; P44,162,443.48 came from local government units; and P2,836,598.00 came from private partners in Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, V, CAR and NCR.
