Tuguegarao locals wait for relief aid along roadsides, barangay hall

Tuguegarao City residents who were stranded on their rooftops at the height of Typhoon Ulysses’ onslaught were seen awaiting relief goods along the road and at their barangay hall on Monday.

According to Atom Araullo’s “24 Oras” report, residents would rush to get their share of relief goods whenever good Samaritans aboard private vehicles would arrive in the area.

In other areas, residents formed tightly packed queues outside their barangay hall to claim their relief packs.

“Mahabang pila, hindi na napa-practice ang social distancing. E hindi namin makontrol ‘yung mga tao, siyempre medyo gutom na rin sila,” social worker Mylene Devado said.

Meanwhile, other residents were busy cleaning up their homes even as floodwaters remained knee-high.

“Wala tayong magagawa, halos lahat naman ng lugar ay lubog e,” Ricky Bilitaryo said.

Cagayan Valley was hit hard by Ulysses, forcing many residents to plead for help from their rooftops.

The storm caused 67 deaths, according to the national disaster management council. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
