Sinas thinks dikes the solution to Ulysses-like flooding

The Philippine National Police commanders on Friday conducted an aerial inspection of areas affected by Typhoon Ulysses.

According to a report on “24 Oras,” among the areas they checked were Marikina City, Rizal Province, Pasig City, and Payatas.

Among those who conducted the aerial survey was PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas.

For Sinas, raising the height of dikes might be a solution to prevent communities from being flooded.

“Marami na tayong bahay na malapit talaga sa tabi ng ilog. Ang dike naman may wall naman so medyo baka taasan natin,” he said.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad earlier said about 401,800 individuals have been evacuated due to Ulysses.

Ulysses, the eighth to hit the country in the past two months, struck areas still reeling from Super Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni), the most powerful typhoon in the world this year, which killed 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes earlier this month. — Ma.
