Where to get cheapest, priciest RT-PCR tests
Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Metro Manila hospitals and facilities range from P1,500 up to P19,000, depending on the turnaround time of results.
RT-PCR is considered the “gold standard” in COVID-19 detection.
According to Lei Alviz’s report on “24 Oras,” the GMA News Research team listed some of the hospitals that offer RT-PCR tests for lower cost:
- Philippine Children’s Medical Center - P1,500 (for PhilHealth members)
- Perpetual Help Medical Center - P1,750 to P2,000 (for corporate clients)
- Private laboratories - P3,000 to P6,300 (results are available in 2 to 4 days)
- St. Paul’s Hospital, St. Luke’s Medical Center, The Medical City, Lung Center of the Philippines - P4,000 to P6,000
- Chinese General Hospital - P5,500 (48 hours processing time), P19,000 (6 to 8 hours processing time)
Moreover, COVID-19 testing in other hospitals and facilities cost more for express results. There is also an extra charge for home service.
Cases of COVID-19 in the country rose to 375,180 on Wednesday including 329,111 recoveries and 7,114 deaths.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
