No deadline for RFID installation on vehicles using toll roads —TRB

A Toll Regulatory Board executive reminded motorists that the installation of RFID stickers on vehicles using toll roads is continuous and has no deadline.

Interviewed on GMA Network’s Unang Hirit on Wednesday, TRB Executive Director Abraham Sales said the installation will be available as long as cashless toll collections are being implemented on toll roads.

“'Yun pong pagpapakabit ng sticker tuloy-tuloy po 'yan. Ang kapaliwanagan doon sa sinasabing deadline doon po sa marami pong site, babawasan na po nila 'yung site after the deadline,” Sales said.

“Pero po 'yung pagpapakabit po ng sticker, tuloy-tuloy po 'yan. Wala pong katapusan po 'yun hanggang pinatapatupad po itong cashless [collection system],” he noted.

According to Sales, up to 500,000 motorists have yet to install RFID stickers on their vehicles, while around 3.1 million have already have.

Recently, hundreds of vehicles converged in several areas in Metro Manila for the installation of RFID stickers resulting in traffic jams.

Sales said that 20,000 to 25,000 motorists line up daily for the installation.

He said the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) is operating 48 stations for the RFID installation and will also open caravans with 16 teams.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has 54 stations and will also deploy ambulant installers, he added.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) moved the start of the mandatory implementation of cashless toll collections on toll roads from November 2 to December 1, 2020.

Under Department Order 2020-012, DOTr ordered all toll road operators to go full cashless in its transactions by November 2, in a bid to arrest the spread of COVID-19.

Motorists who fail to comply will be apprehended and issued a citation ticket, the DOTr said.

But the DOTr has moved the start of the mandatory implementation of cashless toll collections on toll roads from November 2 to December 1, 2020.

In a statement on Wednesday, the DOTr said the new schedule is in response to the clamor of motorists who have yet to install RFID stickers on their vehicles. —LBG, GMA News
