For 10th straight day, Philippines records above 3,000 COVID-19 cases as total tops 126,000
The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines surpassed 126,000 on Saturday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,226 new infections, bringing the total to 126,885.
This marks the tenth consecutive day where over 3,000 new cases were reported.
Meanwhile, the five provinces or cities with the highest number of new cases are the National Capital Region with 2,669, Laguna with 285, Cavite with 154, Cebu with 125, and Rizal with 118.
A total of 95 cases were also removed from the total case count.
The DOH also announced that total recoveries increased to 67,117 after 287 more patients have recovered from the illness, while 41 more fatalities brought the nationwide death toll to 2,209.
Among the new deaths, 14 or 34 percent occurred in August, 16 or 39% in July, five or 12% in June, 1% or 2% in May, three or 7% in April, and 2% or 5% in March.
There are also 57,559 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine. Of this, 91.4% are mild, 7.3% are asymptomatic, 0.7% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.
At present, the Philippines has 76 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 24 GeneXpert laboratories that have tested a total of 1,606,227 individuals.
Meanwhile, 55% of intensive care unit beds for patients are occupied while 30% of ventilators are being used. -MDM, GMA News
