Two Catholic priests are among law graduates who successfully hurdled the 2019 Bar examinations, according to a post on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website.

Fr. Victor De Guzman from the Diocese of San Fernando de La Union while Fr. Abundio Bacatan, a Salesian,  are among the 2,103 new lawyers.

De Guzman took a leave of absence to study for the Bar exams while Bacatan is currently assigned at Don Bosco Dumangas in Iloilo province.

Bacatan, who used to serve as administrator at the Don Bosco Technical College in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, is also reportedly the first Filipino Salesian civil lawyer.

The 2019 Bar exams posted a passing rate of 27.36 percent out of 7,685 examinees, and higher than last year’s 22.07 percent.

There were also two Catholic priests who passed the 2018 Bar exams. These are: Fr. Romeo Dawaton of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk and Fr. Efren Bugayong of the Imus diocese in Cavite. -- BAP, GMA News
