Nurse-artist goes viral for ‘syringe art’
A nurse by profession and artist by passion recently made waves on social media for her “syringe art” inspired by her motherland.
Kimberly Joy Magbanua, a Negros Occidental resident, used syringes and needles instead of typical art materials to express her love of country.
“I called it ‘syringe art’ or ‘syringe painting.’ I was giving medications to my patient when something popped into my mind: ‘yung ‘inject art.’ Inject art to your patient’s life to make it more colorful and meaningful,” she said.
An artist since her childhood, Kim said using painting as a form of mindfulness therapy is her way of merging her passion with her profession.
She first began experimenting with syringes and needles as art tools in 2017.
A Google search of “syringe painting” would conjure up many of her masterpieces.
This week, she went viral for her “Inang Bayan” series.
“I just painted my heart out. I got inspired by Inang Bayan who cries for unity and love sa ating fellow Filipinos,” she said.
