1,200 PMA cadets to donate blood to Red Cross amid health crisis — Gordon
Around 1,200 Philippine Military Academy cadets will be donating blood to ensure that there will be enough supply amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, Philippine Red Cross chairman Senator Richard Gordon said Wednesday.
In a statement, Gordon said this initiative will be done through a partnership with the Department of National Defense.
“In this time of crisis, we need teamwork and everybody carrying their load. There is no blood shortage yet, but we need to fill up the well so that we can continue to provide blood services to those in need,” he said.
Gordon underscored that the need for blood transfusion never stops especially for cancer patients, accident victims, and those with blood disorders.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier acknowledged that blood donation drives in the country have been affected by the precautionary measures being exercised against COVID-19.
Those who are willing to donate blood to the PRC may contact the PRC 143 hotline or (+632) 8790-2300 for pre-assessment and schedule, according to Gordon. — Dona Magsino/RSJ, GMA News
