Misting, alcohol spraying will not kill the novel coronavirus –WHO
The World Health Organization said large-scale misting or spraying using alcohol would not kill the SARS-CoV 2, according to a 24 Oras Weekend report on Sunday.
According to the WHO, the misting or spraying done in disinfection booths cannot kill viruses especially when it has already entered the body.
The WHO added it may also cause skin irritation and health problems for those who have existing respiratory diseases.
WHO said physical distancing, regular hand washing and avoiding touching of eyes, nose, and mouth were better ways of reducing the chances of contracting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
When it comes to cleaning surfaces, the Department of Health advised the public that it was better to wipe it with a towel soaked in disinfectant.
The agency said a disinfectant solution using 0.5 percent sodium hypochlorite or bleach disinfectant solution may be used for surfaces.
One may use a 100 mL bleach with 5 percent active chlorine and mix it with 900 mL water or 20 grams of chlorine powder or tablet with a 60 to 70 percent active chlorine and mix in two liters of water.
The DOH also said to always put labels in the bottles and keep them out of reach from children.
After the WHO’s pronouncement, the Bureau of Fire Protection immediately removed all their disinfectant tents in their camps.
