Like Robredo, Panelo hails from Naga City, Camarines Sur.
Panelo earlier said that workload had prevented President Rodrigo Duterte from paying his respects to the mother of the Vice President. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the President said he shares Robredo's grief.
A day before Panelo’s visit, Robredo's allies from the Liberal Party also paid a visit to her mother’s wake. These included Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, Senator Francis Pangilinan, former Senator Bam Aquino and former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
Salvacion Gerona died on Saturday at the age of 83.
Panelo had earlier described Gerona as a “selfless and dedicated teacher who molded countless of young minds across generations.”
Gerona was a teacher by profession who served at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga, one of the oldest schools in the Philippines. —Llanesca Panti/KBK, GMA News
