Trillanes says Magdalo party-list wants to field him in 2022 Senate race

The Magdalo party-list is planning to field Antonio Trillanes IV in the 2022 senatorial election, the former senator said in an interview with Atom Araullo on Stand for Truth.

“‘Yong aming grupo, ang Magdalo, ay nagpapasya na i-field ako ulit for reelection sa Senado sa 2022,” he disclosed.

However, Trillanes said that his preference would be to support an opposition candidate for the presidency rather than stage his own campaign.

“Ang preference ko sana ay mag-suporta ng isang kandidato ng oposisyon. Ito nga, in this case, si Vice President [Leni] Robredo sa pagkapangulo,” he said.

The former senator earlier said that he has no plans to run for president or vice president. 

Trillanes said he is currently facing 20 different cases filed against him, 15 of which were initiated by the Duterte administration.

Just last week, he posted bail for the conspiracy to commit sedition case filed against him on allegations that he is involved in a plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte. 

“Kung ano man ‘yong ibibigay sa akin in Duterte, sasaluhin ko ‘yan. Masasabi ko lang, based on my experience, umiikot talaga ‘yong mundo at kailangan marunong din siyang sumalo,” Trillanes said.
