AFP personnel now banned from providing security to gov't civilian offices

The Department of National Defense (DND) has issued the implementing rules and regulations that will provide guidelines on the detail or assignment of personnel of the military and police to government civilian offices and officials.

On Friday, the DND said personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) can no longer be detailed to government civilian offices and officials for protective security assignments given the new IRR.

"They can now only be detailed to entitled civilian offices and officials as Aide-de-Camps, Military Assistants or Military Administrative Assistants," the DND said.

"Current protective security assignments of detailed military personnel will no longer be extended and security assignments will now be solely undertaken by the Philippine National Police," it added.

In its IRR, the DND has identified the government civilian officials or offices and the corresponding allowable number of detailed military personnel per official or office.

"Except for the detail of military personnel to the President, all initial detail of military personnel to government civilian offices and/or officials, extensions of the detail period, and termination of such detail, shall be upon evaluation and recommendation of the Chief of Staff, AFP and approval of the Secretary of National Defense," it said.

The DND's IRR was issued through Department Circular No. 28 last December 27, 2019. —LDF, GMA News
