Duterte, Leni approval, trust ratings go up —Pulse Asia

President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo's approval and trust ratings improved, according to results of a nationwide survey conducted by Pulse Asia earlier this month.

Duterte's approval and trust ratings went up to 87% and 83%, respectively, which are both 9% higher than his ratings in September.

Robredo, meanwhile, got an approval rating of 58%, an 8% increase from September. Her trust rating also went up by 7% to 53% from September's 46%.

Duterte's approval and trust ratings were highest in Mindanao (both 98%), while Leni's were highest in Visayas (63% and 60%).

In a statement, Malacañang welcomed the survey results, noting that only 5% of the respondents disapproved of Duterte.

"The figures of the survey graphically show how the Filipino people are united in cementing their support to PRRD, and in agreement with the government programs geared toward uplifting the social and economic condition of the masses of our people," said presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo, describing the President's latest ratings as "stratospheric" and "unprecedented."

"This latest approval rating is a clear repudiation of the fabricated tale and the false narratives of the haters of the President including the foreign entities that have joined the fray with blinders in their eyes," he added.

Cayetano’s ‘high jump’

Apart from the two highest government officials, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano also got higher approval and trust ratings this month, compared to three months ago.

Sotto's approval and trust ratings, respectively, went up to 84% (from 72) and 78% (from 66%).

Among the top four officials, Cayetano jumped the highest, with his approval rating going up 16% to 80%, and his trust rating going up 14% to 76%.

The survey was conducted from December 3 to 8, which coincided with the 30th Southeast Asian Games, the organizing committee for which was headed by Cayetano.

Cayetano's being the most improved in the latest Pulse Asia survey came despite backlash and criticisms he and the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) got over alleged corruption and incompetence in the country’s hosting of the biennial sporting event. — MDM, GMA News
