Tisoy leaves trail of havoc in Bicol, Quezon


Typhoon Tisoy brought destruction in many on its after it made landfall late Monday night, reports on GMA News TV’s “Balitanghali" said.

Camarines Sur

In Milaor and San Fernando, Camarines Sur, floods have yet to subside completely, leaving many residents scrambling to salvage their belongings.

No casualties were recorded in Milaor, but many houses were damaged by the violent winds and torrential downpour.

Nilo Aborde and his relatives were almost hit by a tree that fell while they were securing their belongings.

“Nilalagay namin dito sa loob kasi mababasa e. Tapos no'ng nailipat na namin, biglang bumagsak… Muntik na nga kaming tamaan e,” Aborde said.

Other residents whose homes are still flooded are left to look for a place to spend the night in.

In Iriga, Camarines Sur, the highway connecting Barangays San Nicolas and San Roque was flooded.

The roofs, walls, and trees at the San Nicolas Elementary School also caved in due to the onslaught of Tisoy.

In Barangay Labao, Libmanan, trees and posts were knocked down by the typhoon.

The electricity in the entire province of Camarines Sur is still out due to Tisoy.

The provincial emergency operations center said it may take a while before electricity is restored due to the extent of the damage of the typhoon.

Evacuees have already returned to their homes, except for those in the towns of Nabua, Bato, and Buhi.

Camarines Norte

In Paracale, Camarines Norte, big waves and strong winds continue to threaten residents.

Some evacuees sought refuge in the Parish of Our Lady of Candelaria while waiting for the storm to pass.

Meanwhile, local authorities of Naga City have been working to remove all water lilies at the Naga River that are causing blockage and flooding.

Quezon province

Tisoy nearly wiped out an entire plantation in San Francisco, Quezon.

Some trees were knocked down by the wind, while others are barely able to stay upright.

At the Mabunga National High School, six classrooms lost their roofs to Tisoy.

Only one classroom is still fit for use.

Marinduque

In the town of Gasan, one male was reported dead on the spot after a tree fell on him.

The victim, Bernabe Lundag, stepped out of his house to pick up fallen coconuts.

A similar incident was recorded in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro.

According to the latest tally of local and national authorities, 13 people died in Regions V, VIII, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA due to Tisoy. 

In its latest Severe Weather Bulletin, state weather agency PAGASA lifted all Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals across the country.

Tisoy was forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. —Julia Mari Ornedo/NB, GMA News
