US Speaker Pelosi urges PHL to investigate shooting of American journo in Ifugao

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday said she has urged the Philippine government to investigate the shooting of an American journalist and paralegal in Ifugao last August following his return to his San Francisco home.

“Grateful that Brandon Lee has returned home to SF for refuge and care after being brutally shot in the Philippines, where he was fighting for environmental and indigenous peoples’ rights,” Pelosi said on Twitter.

“I have encouraged the Philippine government to investigate this disturbing crime,” she added.

Pelosi represents California's 12th congressional district, which includes San Francisco.

Lee, an American permanently residing in Ifugao with his Filipina wife, was shot four times outside his home last August after being tagged as an “enemy of the state” on social media for being part of the Ifugao Peasant Movement.

His mother Louise filed a complaint with the Commission on Human rights in September.
