PMA cadet succumbs to cancer

A 21-year-old Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet succumbed to cancer early Monday morning, according to a report by Marisol Abdurahman for State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.

Cadet 2nd Class Cedric Gadia, a criminology degree holder, was supposed to graduate from the academy in 2021.

Gadia’s father Peter told GMA News that the cadet had no sickness prior to entering the PMA.

“Mabilis daw po ang pagkalat ng cancer, naging cancer na po kasi ang bukol sa esophagus,” he said.

Gadia’s family did not know about his illness until he was confined at the V. Luna Hospital.

Peter believes his son’s condition could have been addressed earlier by the PMA, which is why he is pushing for a regular check-up of all cadets.

“Kung hindi atrasado e ‘di dapat hindi umabot sa ganun,” he said. “Para hindi sana umabot sa ganun ang kadete natin, [dahil] syempre sayang ‘yung ambisyon ng bata na magsilbi sa bayan.”

In a statement, the PMA mourned the death of Gadia and vowed to provide his bereaved family with the assistance that they will need. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
