Ex-PCOO official Mocha Uson named OWWA deputy administrator

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former Palace communications official Mocha Uson to another government post.

Duterte named Uson deputy administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration on September 23, according to a list of new appointees released by Malacañang on Monday.

Uson used to join Duterte’s foreign trips and attend his speaking engagements before overseas Filipino workers when she was assistant secretary at the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

She resigned from the PCOO in October last year which she said was her "sacrifice" in hopes of a swift approval by Congress of the P1.47-billion proposed budget of the PCOO for 2019.

Before her resignation, Uson had courted controversy for allegedly spreading disinformation online. She also drew flak for posting a racy video on federalism and a video of her friend, blogger Drew Olivar, flailing his arms around pretending to do the sign language, on her Facebook page.

She had tried to secure a seat in the House of Representatives through party-list AA-Kasosyo. The group, however, lost in the May midterm elections.

An entertainer turned blogger, Uson first joined the government as member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board before she was moved to the PCOO in 2017.

Apart from Uson, Duterte also promoted police officials and appointed new judges.

He also named some Cabinet officials as members of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council.

They are secretaries Ernesto Pernia (socio-economic planning), Carlos Dominguez III (finance), Wendel Avisado (budget), Delfin Lorenzana (national defense), Carlito Galvez Jr. (peace adviser), Mark Villar (public works and highways) and Arthur Tugade (transportation). —KG, GMA News
