Transport strike set for Monday, September 30

At least two transport groups will stage a general transport strike on Monday to protest the government's Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

A report on Balitanghali on Friday said the groups involved are PISTON and Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO).

Launched in 2017, the PUV modernization program aims to phase out jeepneys 15 years and older to replace them with vehicles which are Euro 4 compliant and can run on renewable energy.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), meanwhile, warned operators of the consequences should they join the strike.

The DOTr also said it has reached out to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the local government to help affected commuters. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KBK, GMA News
