Madrigal: I’m leaving a more equipped AFP
Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. on Tuesday expressed confidence that he left the military more equipped to serve the country.
“With all that we have gone through, I am confident that the AFP that I will be leaving is more equipped, more capable and more determined,” Madrigal said during his speech at the AFP’s change of command ceremony in Camp Aguinaldo.
“I am certain that the AFP I will leave behind is one with motivation, focused on fulfilling its mandate,” Madrigal added.
The 51st AFP chief admitted that his stint as the top military official was full of challenges; but he also believes that the military had overcome all of the issues.
“Leading the valiant men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines is filled with challenges but we are proud to say that we have conquered and overcome all of them as one team,” Madrigal said.
“Your Armed Forces has endeavored to achieve our targets in the last ten months, particularly in aligning our campaign strategy with the AFP transformation road map and expediting the expansion of our capabilities through the AFP modernization program,” he added.
Madrigal also mentioned that under his watch, organizational reform initiatives, which advocate good governance, transparency and accountability, were made.
During the ceremony, he also expressed gratitude to all individuals he has worked with during his stint as AFP chief.
Similar to his successor, Lieutenant General Noel Clement, Madrigal is also a member of the Philippine Military Academy's Sandiwa Class of 1985. — BAP, GMA News
