Officials of the New Bilibid Prisons on Thursday released a video showing convicted killer and rapist Antonio Sanchez inside its premises to belie claims that he has been already released.

A video shared in a tweet by GMA News’ Mark Salazar showed Sanchez walking at the NBP compound in ah orange shirt, black leather shoes and sunglasses while covering his thinning hair.

He was with two other prisoners.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday said Sanchez, the Calauan mayor who was convicted for the rape and murder of college student Eileen Sarmenta in 1993, may soon be released from prison as authorities recompute deductions from his sentence for good conduct.

Sanchez is one of thousands of inmates said to be eligible for the recomputation of good conduct time allowances on the basis of Republic Act No. 10592 and a Supreme Court ruling that made the effectivity of the law retroactive, according to Guevarra. —Joviland Rita/NB, GMA News
