Cardinal Tagle elected anew to lead Caritas International
Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has been given another term as Caritas Internationalis president, according to a report on the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website.
Tagle was reelected on May 24 for a second four-year term as head of Caritas Internationalis, which is a confederation of Catholic charities around world.
The Caritas general assembly was attended by 450 representatives of the confederation formed by 165 organizations, including Caritas Philippines National Director Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona and Executive Secretary Fr. Edwin Gariguez.
Tagle was first elected in 2015, the first president from Asia.
This year’s assembly, which would end on May 28, has the theme: “A single human family, a common home."
"The large number of displaced, the proliferation of conflicts and environmental disaster, increasingly evident, threaten to overwhelm us, unless together we act urgently against these problems as a single human family with a common house.," Cardinal Tagle was quoted as saying. — BAP, GMA News
