Angat Dam water level may continue to go down until September — PAGASA
Angat Dam's water level may continue to drop until September.
From the 198 meters recorded in March, a water level of only 178.38 meters was recorded on Wednesday, according to Maki Pulido's report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.
This is below Angat Dam’s minimum operating level of 180 meters.
"'Yung trend ng Angat is patuloy siyang bababa hangga't wala po tayong nararanasang pag-ulan," said Adel Duran, hydrologist at PAGASA.
Allocation for irrigation from the dam will cease beginning May 16, according to the National Water Resource Board. The return of the allocation depends on when the water level returns to normanl.
In Malolos, Bulacan, some farmers are busy digging a well, an alternative source of water for their crops.
But even before the end of the allocation for the irrigation, a farm in Calumpit, Bulacan has already dried out.
Angat Dam, through the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), supplies 97 percent of Metro Manila’s water needs.
But until the water level reaches 160 meters, the allocation for Maynilad and Manila Water would not be affected. — Joviland Rita/BM/JST, GMA News
