Duterte jokes: Sara should be jailed for punching sheriff
President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday joked that his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte should be jailed for punching a court sheriff nearly eight years ago.
Duterte was narrating his political career when he recalled that he was vice mayor to Sara when she hit a court sheriff several times during a demolition of informal settler's shanties on July 1, 2011.
'Yan ang ikulong kasi binugbog niya 'yung sheriff," the President said, drawing laughter and applause from the audience that gathered in Malacañang for the first anniversary celebration of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission.
Two disbarment complaints were separately filed by lawyer Fernando Perito and the Sheriffs' Confederation of the Philippines against the mayor with the Supreme Court in relation to the incident.
The high court has yet to rule on the complaints. —LDF, GMA News
