Ashley Abad in possession of ecstasy when she OD’d —Duterte
The 19-year-old medical student from Cebu who died of drug overdose last month didn't get the party drug ecstasy from her boyfriend, President Rodrigo Duterte indicated on Wednesday.
Ashley Abad, according to Duterte, was in possession of the party drug and was even texting a friend so they could each take a half while reserving one for the boyfriend.
Duterte made the revelation weeks after he met with Ashley's parents after she collapsed while attending a Sinulog concert on January 19.
She died the next day.
"Nagreklamo sila, they want justice. Pero nakita nila. Na-recover ng forensics examination pati ‘yung… She was the one who was actually texting another girl na maghati sila doon kasi ‘yung isa reserba niya para sa kanyang boyfriend, ‘yung missing until now," Duterte said in a speech in Malacañang.
"And to make a long shot guess na galing sa boyfriend. Eh siya ‘yung may hawak eh. Siya nga nagsabi doon sa text para ito sa boyfriend niya. So hindi ma-ano sa nanay pati tatay na...I wanted to cry with them," he added.
An uncle, Benny Abad, described Ashley as "sweet" and "God-fearing." The family didn't believe that she was into illegal drugs.
Her boyfriend, Nel Spencer Tiu, denied before the police on February 13 that he gave Ashley the party drug. —NB, GMA News
