Duterte reappoints Año, Bautista

President Rodrigo Duterte has reappointed Interior Secretary Eduardo Año and Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista as both officials have yet to secure the approval of the Commission on Appointments (CA).

Duterte signed the reappointment papers of Año and Bautista on December 14 last year, the day Congress adjourned sessions for the holiday break.

An ad interim appointment, which the President made when Congress is in recess, allows the appointee to perform the functions and powers of the position until rejected by the CA or until the next adjournment of Congress.

The President also signed the ad interim appointment of Civil Service Commission Commissioner Aileen Lizada last December 14.

Former police Highway Patrol Group head Antonio Gardiola Jr., meanwhile, replaces Lizada as board member of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

Kelvin Lester King Lee was named commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission for a term expiring on December 2, 2023.

Paul Christian Cervantes was named member of the Energy Regulatory Commission for a term expiring on July 10, 2020 while Francis Laurel was appointed member of the University of the Philippines Board of Regents for a term expiring on November 14, 2020.

Duterte also appointed Noel Eugene Servigon as ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Ma. Teresita Daza as ambassador to Chile with concurrent jurisdiction over Ecuador and Peru. —KBK, GMA News
