Senatorial aspirant Osmeña supports anti-political dynasty bill
Despite being a part of a political clan, former senator Serge Osmeña on Thursday said he supports the bill against political dynasty and in fact, passed it in the Senate during his time.
In his interview on Dobol B sa News TV’s Ikaw Na Ba?, Osmeña was asked if he supports the anti-political dynasty bill.

“Yes,” came his reply. Osmeña is a grandson of former president Sergio Osmeña.
During his time in the Senate, according to him, they passed the anti-political dynasty bill three times but the House of Representatives never approved it.
“Sa Kongreso, sabi ng ilan sa amin, ‘Huwag niyong ipasa yan, di naman yan ipapasa rito,” Osmeña said considering that many lawmakers were part of political dynasties too.
Meanwhile, the former senator, who is seeking a return to the Senate in the 2019 polls, explained that the Senate defined political dynasties as a family with politician members who have a direct control or influence to each other in terms of the number of potential electors.
“So kung governor ka, congressman yung anak mo, kontrolado. Kung congressman ka tapos tatakbo ulit sa Congress yung anak mo, kontrolado mo.”
“Pero ‘pag senador ka at mayor yung isa. Walang kontrolado kasi ang liit-liit lang niyan e. Nasa 300, 000 to 400, 000 votes while you have to look for 56 to 57 million votes. So walang kontrol yung senator sa mayor or yung mayor sa senator,” he explained.
“Ang definition namin ng dynasty sa Senado: You can control the election,” he said. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
