Maguindanao solon calls for interfaith prayer ahead of BOL plebiscite

Maguindanao Representative Bai Sandra Sema has filed a resolution urging Filipinos across religions and ethnicity to pray for peace in the Bangsamoro homeland as they hold the plebiscite for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) on January 21 and February 6.

In House Resolution 2404, Sema urged the Muslim people, as well as Christians, Lumads and other faiths to pray for peace ahead of the BOL plebiscite.

The resolution also seeks to declare January 18 as a "Day of Prayer" to pray for peace in the Bangsamoro homeland.

January 18 is the last Friday before the scheduled BOL plebiscite on January 21.

"There is a need to include in the prayer a supplication for peace in the Bangsamoro homeland especially during the plebiscite on January 21, 2019," the resolution read.

"There is also a need to call on the Christians, Lumads, and other faith to join the Muslim people as they prepare to vote for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law," it added.

The plebiscite for the ratification of the BOL is needed to determine if majority of those residing in the provinces of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao are agreeable to abolishing it and establishing the Bangsamoro Region. —LDF, GMA News
